Sandwich generation carers are people who have caring responsibilities at both ends of the age spectrum. They’re still looking after their children but have also taken on responsibility for looking after an elderly relative, usually a parent. There are estimated to be 2.4m sandwich generations carers in the UK and at times their lives can feel very stretched by these responsibilities, especially if they’re also holding down a busy job. We explore different aspects of their lives and identify some steps psychologists have identified, to help them avoid these multiple demands taking a toll on their health and wellbeing.
