John joined us in 2017, building upon a decade long career in retail banking, John moved into health and social care within the public, private and third sectors. His commercial experience and partnership innovation, coupled with connected co-created individual focused service delivery provides us with the opportunity to continue to evolve the way we bring digital and relationship driven strategies to the core principles of occupational benevolence. John’s passion is in ensuring the most effective and responsive approach is provided for the people we support, driving high impact and valued outcomes across the breadth of need across the banking community.
Alan Knowles | Director of Finance & Support
Alan joined us in late 2018 as Director of Finance & Support. Alan is a Chartered Accountant and has worked extensively in senior management and executive positions in both finance and resources, as an employee and as a consultant. Prior to joining us Alan worked for 5 years as Director of Finance & Administration at Buttle UK, a charity helping disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in the UK. This was Alan’s first move into the charity sector following a career in the commercial sector working for a number of fund management organisations including Gartmore, F&C Asset Management Plc, Old Mutual plc and Eden Rock Capital Management.
Simon Ashmore | Director of Operations and Marketing
Simon joined us in early 2019. Prior to starting at BWC, Simon had a nine-year career at the Royal College of General Practitioners, the examining and professional body for GPs in the UK. Simon has held a number of commercial and professional development roles, including Executive Director of GP Forward View, which saw him lead the College’s response to NHS England’s £2.5bn investment in general practice. Simon previously worked at the ifs School of Finance (now the London Institute of Banking and Finance) where he led the marketing and PR teams. Simon is a trustee of Electrical Safety First, and a board member of Certsure LLP.
Selam Shibru | Head of Finance & IT
Selam joined us in 2007 as a Finance Officer. He’s since taken on responsibility for finance, IT and audit and risk. Prior to joining us, Selam honed his skills working for a management consultancy for seven years.
Ola Opoosun | Head of Services and Grants
Ola joined us in 2015 as Services Manager and more recently took on responsibility for our Services and Grants delivery team, partner contracts and compliance matters. Within the context of this role Ola is responsible for the development and introduction of new products and services to meet the emerging needs of the people we exist to support. Prior to joining us, Ola was Head of Grants & Advice at Terrence Higgins Trust, where she led a range of national programmes; including; financial assistance, legal advice, social development and inclusion.
Omair Makhdumi | Senior Marketing Communications Manager
Omair joined us in 2014 with experience spanning the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors. Omair leads on marketing, relationship and business development and is responsible for raising awareness and engagement with the banking community. Prior to joining us Omair oversaw the rebrand and launch of The Gazette (formerly The London Gazette) and managed the marketing team for the Commercial Services arm at The British Library.
Tony Ramos | Chair of the Board of Trustees
Tony enjoyed a career at HSBC for over twenty five years, working across a number of different business areas, including the Global HR team. Tony now works for Eversheds Sutherland LLP holding responsibility for the development of their Diversity and CR strategy and leading their social mobility programmes.
Gary George | Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee
Gary has worked in the City for over 30 years working for a mix of international banks and fund management companies. With extensive experience including credit analysis and general management as well as having expertise in investment appraisal, Gary is Deputy General Manager at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited, with responsibility for a portfolio of loans spread across the EMA region.
Paul Haynes | Chair of the Services and Grants Committee
Paul has worked for HSBC for 15 years in their service & operations, compliance and people management teams. He is currently People Manager for the business banking sector of commercial banking at HSBC.
Nathalie De Potter | Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee
Nathalie is a Director at a management consultancy and has previously worked for a specialist financial services risk consultancy – providing strategic advice, research and consulting services in all areas of risk management, financial regulation and technology.
Dougie has worked in various roles for Clydesdale Bank since 1985, currently as Head of Payment Services. Dougie also served as a Trustee Director for the Bank’s Pension Scheme between 2006-10.
Lillian is a lawyer and a Chartered Insurer as well as a Chartered Fellow of the CISI. Lillian is a former President of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and Chair of their Audit Committee. Lillian currently sits on a number of boards including those of investment and financial services companies.
Lena has worked as Head of External Reporting and Accounting Policy for Close Brothers Group. Prior to joining Close Brothers in 2010, Lena was a director in the capital markets group of PWC, based in London and New York.
Kim has worked in the payroll profession for more than 20 years. She manages large payroll operations and has worked in both private and public sectors. She is currently Head of Payroll and Payment Services for RBS UK and Offshore. In addition, she manages a team supporting pensions retained administration services for the bank.
Rachel joined Barclays 20 years ago, and has experience covering financial institutions relationship management, product management and corporate banking risk and profit and loss management. Currently, she is VP for Risk and Control at the Barclaycard Chief Control Office.
Michael is a Chartered Financial Analyst, working for Morningstar as an equity analyst based in the Netherlands. Michael brings with him over a decade of experience in the financial services industry, having previously worked in the UK and Australia. In his prior role with Close Brothers Asset Management in London he worked within a multi-asset team managing over GBP 1.3 billion in assets.
Prior to taking early retirement in 2014, Beverley’s 35 year career at HSBC spanned large scale leadership roles, having been regional director of a number of geographies throughout the UK and head of the UK retail and wealth management business. Beverly has a portfolio of non-executive directorships and is currently Deputy Chairman, HSBC UK Pensioners Association and Vice Chairman of Children’s Hospice South West.
Suzanne is the Organisation Effectiveness and Culture Director for Santander UK. Having held a number of senior HR roles at Santander, she has a strong interest in employee engagement, wellbeing and health and has been a member of the Business in the Community Wellbeing leadership team for several years. Previously, Suzanne worked as a management consultant at Accenture specialising in change management.
Linda has been a Trustee of BWC for 20 years, serving on the Services & Grants Committee. Linda worked in HR for Standard Chartered for 34 years - for over 20 years as Pensions Manager.
Shirley’s banking career spanned 35 years, included a role as Head of Reward Integration for Lloyds Banking Group, before taking early retirement in 2011. As well as her banking experience, Shirley is also qualified as a company secretary and is currently a member of the remuneration panel for her local council.
Maggie's career has seen her based here in the UK and Australia, working for a major bank. Her senior general management roles have included Head of Strategy, General Manager for the Life Insurance business and Programme Director for a significant investment business implementation.
