Alison Seabrooke | Interim Chief Executive Officer
Alison joined BWC as Interim Chief Executive Officer in October 2020. From 2016 – 2020, she undertook similar leadership roles in charities focused on environmental change and young people’s homelessness; she was also commissioned to review grant making for BBC Children in Need and produce reports on community health and wellbeing for the UK’s largest Town Council and an NHS Trust.
From 2005 - 2016, she was Chief Executive of the Community Development Foundation, delivering programmes and distributing millions of pounds in grants to local community projects across the UK. Prior to this she set up a large social enterprise in her community and undertook roles in central government.
Alison has a Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Development and Consultancy and is a Visiting Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. She has co-written community regeneration books, been a founder and Trustee of a number of charities, and is currently Vice Chair of a domestic abuse charity.
Alan Knowles | Director of Finance and Support
Alan joined us in late 2018 as Director of Finance and Support. Alan is a Chartered Accountant and has worked extensively in senior management and executive positions in both finance and resources, as an employee and as a consultant. Prior to joining us Alan worked for five years as Director of Finance & Administration at Buttle UK, a charity helping disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in the UK. This was Alan’s first move into the charity sector following a career in the commercial sector working for a number of fund management organisations including Gartmore, F&C Asset Management Plc, Old Mutual plc and Eden Rock Capital Management.
Simon Ashmore | Director of Operations and Marketing
Simon joined us in early 2019. Prior to starting at BWC, Simon had a nine-year career at the Royal College of General Practitioners, the examining and professional body for GPs in the UK. Simon held a number of commercial and professional development roles, including Executive Director of GP Forward View, which saw him lead the College’s response to NHS England’s £2.5bn investment in general practice. Simon previously worked at the IFS School of Finance (now the London Institute of Banking and Finance), where he led the marketing and PR teams.
Selam Shibru | Head of Finance and IT
Selam joined BWC in 2007 as a Finance Officer. With a background in Accounting and IT, he manages the finance, IT and risk functions, which includes fund mergers and implementation of key IT projects. He is also serving as the Company Secretary and supports the work of the Finance and Investment Committee, and the Board of Trustees. Before joining BWC, Selam worked in the private sector for more than seven years, and was principally responsible for administering the finance and systems of a consultancy firm based in London.
Victoria Prouse | Head of Services and Grants
Victoria joined us in late 2019 with 16 years’ experience in the Charity Sector, specialising in grant making and advice giving. Victoria most recently worked for two health-based grant makers and prior to that, was Head of Advice and Support at Independent Age. She is currently Vice Chair for the Cicely Northcote Trust, a South London-based grant maker supporting local charities.
Omair Makhdumi | Senior Marketing Communications Manager
Omair joined us in 2014 with experience spanning the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors. Omair leads on marketing, relationship and business development and is responsible for raising awareness and engagement with the banking community. Prior to joining us, Omair oversaw the rebrand and launch of The Gazette (formerly The London Gazette) and managed the marketing team for the Commercial Services arm at The British Library.
Tony Ramos | Chair of the Board of Trustees
Tony enjoyed a career at HSBC for over twenty five years, working across a number of different business areas, including the Global HR team. Tony now works for Eversheds Sutherland LLP holding responsibility for the development of their Diversity and CR strategy and leading their social mobility programmes.
Lena Breen | Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee
Lena has worked as Head of External Reporting and Accounting Policy for Close Brothers Group. Prior to joining Close Brothers in 2010, Lena was a director in the capital markets group of PWC, based in London and New York.
Michael Field | Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee
Michael is a Chartered Financial Analyst, working for Morningstar as an equity analyst based in the Netherlands. Michael brings with him over a decade of experience in the financial services industry, having previously worked in the UK and Australia. In his prior role with Close Brothers Asset Management in London he worked within a multi-asset team managing over GBP 1.3 billion in assets.
Lillian Boyle | Deputy Chair and Chair of the People Committee
Lillian is a lawyer and worked in international financial services where she has been Managing Director of a life assurance company and has subsequently held various non-executive roles in investment management, trust companies, charities and regulatory authorities. She is the current Chair of the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority as well as being Chair of the Island’s Research Ethics Committee. She is a Past President of the UK Chartered Insurance Institute and is a member of their professional standards committee.
Kim is a payroll professional with almost 30 years’ experience. She manages large operations within a shared service environment and has worked in both private and public sectors. She is currently Pay Lead for Nat West Group. Kim manages UK, Ireland and offshore payroll, International Assignees, Reward Administration Operations and is Head of People Services EMEA, where she provides HR and pay-related services across several countries. Her service proposition extends to almost 63,000 people working in the Bank.
Rachel has over 30 years’ experience with Barclays in financial services and payments. She has held a variety of roles in business management, risk and control, planning, commercial and P&L management, and is currently Head of Planning and Controls with Barclays Payments Digital.
Marco is a Senior Client Portfolio Manager for Aberdeen Standard Capital, the discretionary fund manager of Aberdeen Standard Investments, a leading global asset manager. He manages assets on behalf of pension funds, Trust companies and private clients. Marco is a Chartered Financial Analyst with over 15 years’ experience, having previously worked for the South Korean Sovereign Wealth Fund co-managing their European Equity portfolio and the Relx corporate pension fund managing UK equities.
Prior to taking early retirement in 2014, Beverley’s 35-year career at HSBC spanned large-scale leadership roles, having been Regional Director of a number of geographies throughout the UK and Head of the UK retail and wealth management business. Beverly has a portfolio of non-executive directorships, which includes her role at BWC, and also HSBC Bank Pension Trust (UK) Limited.
Suzanne is the Chief People and Transformation Officer for PRS for Music. Previously, Suzanne was an HR Director at Santander where she worked for over 15 years and has a strong interest in culture, diversity, wellbeing and health. Suzanne also worked as a management consultant at Accenture specialising in change management.
Duncan joined BWC in September 2020 as a Trustee and member of the Audit and Risk Committee. Duncan has worked in financial services for 40 years, twenty-five of which were in Internal Audit with extensive experience in global markets, investment, wealth management, regulation and governance. He has worked at several institutions including Barclays, Chase Manhattan, Bank of America, HBOS and Grant Thornton. He holds an ACIB qualification (Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers) and a BSc in Financial Studies from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
